Door Knocking Procedure
Scott Perry

The door-knocking effort for our gospel meeting is this Saturday! Are you
ready? Below are some helpful suggestions on how best to conduct this good
work. Feel free to use your own words so long as the two goals of inviting
our community neighbors to the gospel meeting and offering to study the
Bible with them are accomplished.

POSSIBLE DOOR PRESENTATION:

"Hello, I¹m (your name) and this is (your partner¹s name) . We are in the
community knocking doors today inviting people to special preaching services
at the Mabelvale Church of Christ next to Southwest Regional Hospital on
September 8th 11th. In addition to that, we are encouraging folks to study
their Bibles. We are offering home Bible studies (video study available) or
a Bible correspondence course through the mail. Which type of study would
you be interested in?"

(If they are interested in a Bible study of any kind, then the silent
partner needs to ask them for their name and address and write it on a legal
pad; if they are not interested in either one, then close with something
similar to the following:)

"We would like to leave you with our information in case you change your
mind. The Bible study is an open invitation. Please feel free to contact us
at any time; our number is on the back of the tract. Thank you for your
time."

SUGGESTIONS FOR DOOR-KNOCKERS

1. Ring doorbell or knock and step back. If no response, wait 15- 20 seconds
and knock again. If there is an indication that no one is coming to the
door, leave literature and depart. (Since some people sleep late on Saturday
mornings, some may not be up yet during the first hour. If so, leave
literature and go to the next door.)

2. Do not put literature in mail box or mail drop! This is against
government regulations.

3. If someone answers the door, smile and speak in a relaxed, friendly
manner.

4. Do not go into someone¹s house even if you are invited. Instead, make an
appointment for someone to come back later if they would like to discuss
something. Explain that you need to complete the task of extending
invitations, but someone will be glad to return this afternoon.

5. Experience shows that most people are friendly, even if they do not
intend to take your invitation. If someone is unfriendly, do not argue, but
thank them for their time and wish them good-bye.

6. A few suggestions to keep the good will of the community:
a. Do not cut-across lawns; use the sidewalks.
b. Do not go into fenced yard with dog warning or "No Trespassing" sign.
c. Be friendly and enjoy yourself, but remember we are on serious business
for the Lord: No horseplay, loud talking, running, or laughing too loudly
which are often misinterpreted by those in the neighborhood.

7. If you are asked if you are a Mormon or Jehovah¹s Witness, answer, "No.
We are just Christians inviting you to special services to get to know you
better."

8. Be alert to special opportunities. Make a note if someone is especially
interested, shows positive response, etc. so a follow-up call can be made.
