NAVAJO MISSION TRIP
Scott Perry

A group of missionaries from the Mabelvale assembly returned recently
from the Navajo nation among the plateaus of Arizona. We were invited to
conduct a Vacation Bible School for the children of the Kinlichee community
from Sunday through Wednesday. The trip was a success from many standpoints.
The eighty-eight year old "Medicine Man" said he "did not know where his
spirit was going when he died, that he believed in Jesus, and would do so
until he met Him in heaven." These words were heard by one of our elders,
Bill Boyd, while studying with him into the late hours of the night. He was
immersed into Christ immediately.
Approximately sixty people, forty of which were children and teenagers,
attended the daily afternoon services from four until six thirty. Sports
activities and crafts delighted children prior to singing and laughter
which could be heard from an eight sided, native Navajo structure known as
a "hogan." Next the children would separate into classes for well-prepared
lessons.
Eighteen traveled in all: Bill, Rose, and Cliff Boyd; Ray and Donna
Bryan; Kathy, Emily, Jessica, David, Breanna, and John Paul Gulledge;
Tamera and Devin Long; Nick Lowe; Scott Perry; Michael, Colette, and Allen
Wilson. Thanks to all who supported the trip with prayers, supplies, and
encouragement. It could not have been done without workers behind the
scenes.

CHECKLIST FOR PERSONAL WORKERS (PART 2)
Scott Perry

5. (continued) When we fully come to know and realize this, we cannot keep
from teaching. An infidel¹s statement has helped me: I pass it on: "If
I firmly believed, as millions say they do, that the knowledge and practice
of Christianity in this life influences destiny in another world,
Christianity would be to me, everything. I would cast aside earthly cares as
follies and earthly thoughts and feelings as vanity. Christianity would be
my first waking thought, and my last image before sleep sank me into
unconsciousness. I would labor in its cause alone. I would take thought for
the morrow and eternity alone. Earthly consequences should never stay my
hands or seal my lips. I would esteem one soul gained for heaven worth a
lifetime of effort. I would go forth to the world and preach Christ in and
out of season, and my text would be: "What shall it profit a man if he gain
the whole world and lose his own soul?"--UNKNOWN
6. Know God is with me and helps me make in doing personal work is to get the idea that sheer weight of argument
and glibness of speech will convert people. I have always found that it
helps if I pause just before entering a house or before talking to an
individual and breathe a silent prayer to God, asking for help to say the
right thing in the right way.
7. Remember God¹s word is powerful get discouraged if he did not have faith in the power of the word of God.
Heb.4:12 says that the word of God is living and powerful. Jer. 23:29 says
that His word is a hammer and a fire. Our job is to sow the word and it¹s
God work to give the increase (1 Cor.3:6). I have closed many a
conversation with a man and believed that the visit with him was all in vain
only to be asked in a few days to assist him in obeying the Lord. We must
sow the seed as the farmer plants his crop with confidence that a harvest
of souls will be reaped if we faint not.
8. Have compassion for souls on the multitude, (See Matt.5:32; Mark 8:2). If we are to be successful in
winning the lost we must also have this compassion.
9. Finally, be sure of your own salvation Christians who is not sure he is a Christian. We do not have to guess or
depend on feelings, emotions, or experiences. God has told us exactly what
we must do to be saved, and if we have done what God requires, if we believe
God will do what He promises, we can know definitely and surely we are
saved. Only when all [doubt] is removed can you be a faithful and true
winner of souls.

THE PAIN OF EVIL
Surely no one doubts that innocent people suffer from the evil deeds of evil
men. It is stamped clearly and permanently on our minds by the history of
December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001. When such a disaster strikes,
there is a time of shock and grief, a time for tears, a time of grim
determination, a time for action. There¹s also a time of pondering, a time
for thinking.
