Recently, brother Wayne Brewer (gospel preacher in Sheridan) and Jose
Martinez (full time evangelist among Hispanics with the Levy congregation)
met with our elders to discuss beginning a Hispanic work in the South West
Little Rock area. Several reasons prompted these brethren to consider us:
1. Mabelvale is a doctrinally sound congregation that will enable the
Hispanic work to have a solid Biblical foundation.
2. Mabelvale is in the corridor of a large Hispanic population, Southwest
Little Rock, Benton, Hot Springs, Hope, etc.
3. Mabelvale¹s size and ability provides this wonderful opportunity to
reach
the Hispanic community.
4. Mabelvale has consistently demonstrated an interest in worldwide
evangelism, which can begin right in our area. Often, those who are
converted in Hispanic works return to their native lands to establish the
Lord¹s church.
Wayne Brewer has been selected to do this work. Wayne and his family
will join us in September. He will address the congregation Sunday night
(July 28th) about the nature of this work. There is considerable excitement
about the prospects of such a work beginning here. If you know of those who
would like to help support a good evangelistic endeavor, please contact the
Mabelvale elders.

SHOULD JESUS HAVE BOTHERED?
A young man lead his youth group in a devotional. He showed them a small
tract. On the front was an outline of Jesus on the cross; it was covered
with red to simulate His shed blood. The message was intended to attract
some readers to Jesus and the salvation he bought for each of us. One youth
responded, "He shouldn¹t have bothered." Unbelievable? It is
happening.

WILL YOU BE A PART OF OUR VISITATION PROGRAM?
Dennis Gulledge
By the time you read this article we will have already had our
visitation re-organization meeting. Hopefully, you were present and have
committed yourself to be involved. Now, after a two-month break, we are
gearing up for another four-month period of concentrated visitation. I know
that there are some of you who are already active in visiting and you do not
need a program in order to visit others. This effort, however, is intended
to be a great motivating tool for other brethren to help them in this vital
area of the Lord¹s work here at Mabelvale.
This visitation program is one of the many great things that is
happening at Mabelvale right now. We need those who have been active in the
program in the past to continue doing so. This is a wonderful opportunity
for new people to get involved. If you are looking for an avenue of church
work wherein you can get to know people, and make a difference in the lives
of others, this is it! There are so many people who can be helped by a
simple visit from someone who cares:
q A new person (couple or family) who visits at Mabelvale. They will be
greeted by many friendly people in the Mabelvale church, but will they
return?
q A lonely person in a nursing home. It is a difficult decision for someone
to put a parent in a nursing home. What a wonderful opportunity you have to
check in on those of our brethren who are in a nursing home and let them
know that they are not forgotten.
q An elderly brother or sister in Christ who is shut-in at home. It is sad
when there are those who because of declining health and advanced age are
unable to attend worship services regularly, or at all. In most cases they
miss it terribly! Think of the encouragement they would receive from
association with loving brethren who come by to visit.
q A new family places membership. Perhaps an elder or another will stop to
see them, but think how much it would mean if several members of the church
went by to get acquainted with them.
q Those who are in the hospital. The preacher will make a concentrated
effort to visit the sick in the hospitals, but it must be encouraging to
know that others are concerned enough to stop by as well.
Visitation is not the work of any one individual preacher, elder or
deacon. This is a work that can be done by many others as well. Mabelvale
is already known as a friendly congregation. We can also be known as a
visiting congregation. We need those who will step up and say, "Count on
me!" Again, let me encourage new members to be a part of this work. You
will be glad you did.
