GOSPEL MEETING
With
James W. Boyd
(June 10-13) Our gospel meeting with James W. Boyd will be upon us very soon. A great deal of preparation has gone into making this effort as successful as it can be for the Mabelvale church and the kingdom of God at large.
Jim Boyd has been preaching the gospel for over fifty years. He is presently conducting gospel meetings and lectures after forty-six years of located work among churches of Christ. He is married to the former Rosalyn Hale. They have four children: Amy, Bill, Steve and Sam. Bill serves as one of the elders of the Mabelvale church. They have ten grandchildren. The Boyds attend the East End congregation in McMinnville, Tennessee.
Brother Boyd edited a booklet entitled A Burning Fire containing the sermons he has preached over the years. You can hear samples of his preaching on www.aburningfire.com . He is author of several books, including an excellent commentary on the book of Romans called, System of Salvation, a study guide on The Book of Judges, and a work on the home and family entitled O, Give Me A Home.
Service times will be: Thursday – Saturday, 7:00 PM, Sunday, 9:30 AM for Bible classes, 10:30 AM for worship, 5:00 PM for worship. RUDENESS
James W. Boyd It is not our intention to turn to the dictionary and find the corresponding synonyms of rudeness. Anyone can do that. This brief article is intended to call attention to the more obvious manifestations of rudeness as is even seen among Christians at times.
The world is overrunning with rudeness. The attitude toward others that what they think and how they feel is not really important is to exhibit rudeness. The way and manner of “put down” of others, whether it be brethren, neighbors, friends or family, is rudeness. It is rude to act in such fashion that it indicates you do not think the other person ought to have any interest, viewpoint, or concern about anything. Being ungrateful is rude. It is a manner of giving others the “brush off.”
Consideration for another person is a quality of a faithful Christian. This does not mean there can be no contest of views. This does not mean that life is filled with gooey words of sweet nothings. But it does require that we not “show the other person out” as if he really does not matter. That is rude. Rudeness makes a person feel unnecessary as well as unwanted. What an attitude for a Christian!
Manners are something that civilized people cultivate to show that they are a cut above the beast. What others think is important. While we cannot allow what others think to be the sole determining factor in our lives, even when we cannot accept what they say and do and think, we can be courteous about it. Courtesy is not a sign of weakness. But rudeness is an admission of insecurity, egotism, and lack of love for others.
Even in jest we must be careful not to carry things too far lest it seem to be a display of disrespect and rudeness. It is a good rule that one father taught his son. He said, “Son, always be courteous to the other fellow, not necessarily because he is a gentleman, but because you are one.” The cut down, put down, slighting manner toward other people will catch up with rude people someday. They will meet their match and suffer the hurt that rude people always dish out.
With God, there is no such thing as a person that does not count. With men, that attitude exists but only among the rude. If one acts as if nothing he says or does is anybody's business but his own, then that person is a candidate for the prize of King of Rudeness. Good manners, kind words, consideration of feelings and the interest of others are always in style. We must always be on guard lest we become a crude and rude person.
