Hoover Rupert used to say, ³The measure of someone is the size of the
thing it takes to get his goat.² What do you think? Do you know what it
means ³to get his goat?²
It refers to the sensitivity of racehorses. According to Dr. Rupert,
racehorses are infamously high strung. Horse trainers learned many years
ago that highly sensitive animals like a stall mate, and a goat is one of
the most suitable companions for a racehorse. In fact, once a racehorse
bonded with a goat, that horse would go crazy if the goat were taken away.
On the theory that all is fair in love and horse racing, gamblers used
to try to shorten the odds by stealing a thoroughbred¹s stall mate. The
hope
was to reduce the racehorse¹s chance of winning. From this practice, ³to
get
one¹s goat² came to stand for upsetting a person so that there was
a
complete loss of temper.
So, the measure of a person is the size of the thing it takes to get
one¹s goat. What does it take to upset you? What does it take to make you
lose your temper? How emotionally high strung are you when you find yourself
in a situation with your goat being out of the stall? Perhaps, we should
give close attention to the words of Paul, ³Be ye angry, and sin not: let
not the sun go down upon your wrath² (Eph. 4:26). The Psalmist said, ³Cease
from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil²
(Psa. 37:8). Has someone taken your goat?
What¹s Wrong With Using the NIV ? (Conclusion)
Scott Perry
Many false teachers today lie to their disciples about having the
ability to perform miracles such as speaking in tongues. Such is troublesome
enough to deal with without a translation of the Bible encouraging it as
well. Yet, this is exactly what the NIV does:
First Corinthians chapters 12 through 14 deal extensively with miracles
and speaking in tongues specifically; the last part of First Corinthians
chapter 13 (vv. 8-10) declares the cessation of miracles when ³that which
is
perfect² is come. The context of chapters 12 -14 (miracles) requires this
to
be God¹s full verbal revelation to man (cf. Eph. 4:11-15) based upon the
purpose of miracles being to confirm the words of the apostles (Mark 16:
20). Brother Taylor addresses this highly hurtful and misleading way the NIV
deceives souls on page 98 of his expose,
PERVERSIONS IN THE EPISTLES (continued)
The NIV¹s rendering of 1 Corinthian 13:10, ³but when perfection
comes,
the imperfect disappears,² leaves sufficient room for current charismatic
gifts. It has reference to the completed Bible or the coming of full
revelation and then the ceasing of the spiritual gifts as our reliable
Bibles make crystal clear and pointedly plain (emphasis in original).
Not only does the NIV leave the door wide open for error to enter the
house of God through false doctrine on miracles, but once inside, it
continues to disrupt the order left by Jesus by corrupting the worship of
the assembly. In Ephesians 5:19, the NIV translates the Greek word psallo
³make music² instead of ³sing² inviting the use of mechanical
instruments.
Brother Taylor points out that there was a word for ³music,² sumphonia
which
even the KJV and ASV used in Luke 15:25, but he states:
this is NOT the word Paul employed in Ephesians 5:19. He used a
form of psallo which does not mean to play on a stringed instrument in the
New Testament but strictly means to SING. Quite literally the Greek text
in Ephesians 5:19 reads,³singing and praising with heart your to the
Lord;². . . The instrument is herein provided instrument! (emphasis and
italics in original, p.99).
Friend, these are not the only errors contained in the NIV. Do you know
where all of them are? The story is told about a school superintendent who
was looking for a bus driver with perfect skills. The search narrowed down
to two who were told to drive the bus as close to the edge of a cliff as
possible. One driver drove the bus impeccably near the edge; the other
stayed as far away as possible. The job was given to the second man because
he would not risk the lives of the children. Are you willing to risk their
souls?

WALKING WITH JESUS
The third day after Jesus¹ crucifixion, two of His disciples were walking
on
the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus when the resurrected Lord joined them.
What joy filled their hearts when they realized they were walking and
talking with the living Christ! And what an inspiring lesson for the 21st
century disciple!
