Wayne Brewer
On October 5-7, brother Roberto Sarmiento, from Alajuela, Costa Rica, was
at Mabelvale preaching in a Spanish Gospel Meeting. The meeting was an overwhelming
success. Attendance was: 23 Sunday, 90 Monday, and 70 Tuesday. There were visitors
who live in the area, but are originally from Mexico and Guatemala. Some of
these visitors are very close to the kingdom in that they expressed that they
are looking only for Christians, not a denomination, as some seem to already
believe what the Bible teaches. Brother Roberto was so thrilled at the results
that he came back to Mabelvale on Saturday afternoon, October 11, to talk and
study again with some of the visitors. Eternal results will come from the Gospel
Meeting and being able to establish a worship service on Sunday morning. The
Hispanic work at Mabelvale is continuing to grow.
Thanks to all who provided food, Sunday, October 5, for the students of the
Spanish School of Preaching. They enjoyed being at Mabelvale and said that they
would like to come back again.
Please pray for these good works, and the work that I’ll be doing in Latvia.
On October 15 I left for a mission trip to Riga, Latvia. There is only one congregation
of the Lord’s church, of 15 people in that whole former Soviet Union country.
They need our help too.
WHAT PLACE WOULD YOU SAY THE CHURCH OCCUPIES
IN THE LIFE OF THE INDIVIDUAL WHO:
Ted Knight
ÿ Never misses a meeting of a social or civic club but doesn’t attend
the services of the church regularly?
ÿ Will get up in the wee hours of the morning to go hunting, fishing, or
some other form of leisure, but can’t get to Bible class on time on Sunday
because of oversleeping?
ÿ Wears a button or badge denoting membership in some lodge or club, but
never mentions the Lord to others?
ÿ Will spend $10 per week on some form of recreation or entertainment,
but only gives $3 a week to the Lord?
ÿ Will forsake the assembly on Wednesday night for a ball game or something
of that nature and then wonders what happened to the Bible study attendance?
ÿ Will wear himself out to get someone elected to a political office but
can’t ask a friend or neighbor to visit the service of the Church?
ÿ Will spend a great deal of time telling others what they should be doing
for the Lord but takes no action himself?
ÿ Criticizes others for the way he/she does a thing that he/she doesn’t
do at all?
ÿ Insists that the church make good grades in school but never mentions
their Bible lessons?
ÿ Will work diligently to provide for the needs of this life and is unconcerned
about the life to come?
ÿ Goes ape over some personality here on earth but is not moved at all
by the One who died for our sins?
ÿ Who insists that the Church have sound doctrine preached but is not made
sound by the preaching of that doctrine?
ÿ Who teaches that the church has an obligation to assist those in need
but won’t bring a pantry item to give to the needy?
ÿ Who would voice objections to the dismissing of Sunday and Wednesday
evening services but then doesn’t attend them?
ÿ Brethren, think about these things. Just where does the church play a
role in our lives? Is it first as Matthew 6:33 teaches that it must be? It’s
time we consider this seriously!
