Living in a self-centered society has taught the
majority in our country to live for today and not to worry about what we
will face in the future as a result of our decisions made today.
In many instances this has created a shortage of Christian leaders.
Many young men dream about being a leader but wait too long to learn.
How many young men have ever thought about being President of he United
States? Yet unless one begins to prepare at a young age, this will
never be an attainable goal. One doesn't simply wake up at the age
of 50 and decide today he is going to become a leader. It takes time
and training.
Moses was one of the greatest leaders spoken of
in the Bible. Moses led the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage,
through the wilderness, to the border of the Promised Land. Many
people think of Moses as becoming a leader when God called him through
the burning bush. But, Moses was a leader long before this event!
Moses spent the first 40 years of his life in Pharaoh's
house, being trained for the future. Although Pharaoh's daughter
was not teaching him how to lead the Israelites out of bondage, she was
indirectly training him for what God would use him to do in the future.
At the age of 40 he was forced to choose whether to follow the Pharaoh
or to follow God. He chose to follow God and as a result spent the
next 40 years as a shepherd for the flocks of his father-in-law.
When God called him he was already prepared to lead.
Too many, spend too much time complaining about
the problems of leadership in the church today without doing anything about
it. If young men decide today to prepare to be leaders in the Lord's
church, the future will be bright. Many of the problems facing the
church as a whole are the result of poor leadership. If young men
don't start preparing today for leadership, one day we will wonder "Where
are the leaders?"
