"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of
them all," is a famous line from the
familiar film "Snow White." Everything in today's
society is focused on looks and appearance. It is so difficult for
young women to feel good about themselves when they are always striving
to look better to keep up with the appearance of the world. However,
the Bible teaches that God looks on the heart. In I Samuel 16:7,
". . . for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh
on the heart."
As a Christian woman, we have so many things to
feel good about. We have multiplied blessings from God, and we have
hope of a heavenly home with God. In John 3:16 we read: "For
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
In the Old Testament there are several examples
that we, as women, should follow. Esther was a prime example of what
we need to be. Although Esther was a beautiful woman, the majority
of the book is spent on her inward beauty and faithfulness to God.
There are many other examples of faithful women in the Bible. These
are the women we need to look up to and pattern our lives after instead
of the worldly examples.
In Matthew 6:33 we are told to "seek ye first the
kingdom of God . . . and all these things shall be added unto you."
God knows what we need! He will take care of us if we put Him first.
The next time you look in the mirror ask "Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
do you see Christ in me at all?"
