New Year’s Resolution
Patrick Morrison

It happens with the arrival of every new year.  People all over the world make their New Year’s resolutions, only to break them after only a short time.  Perhaps you have resolved within yourself to lose weight, or get up earlier in the mornings, or save more money, etc.  These are all noble goals, but how many people consider making spiritual resolutions for the new year?  Below are just a few suggestions.  Think about these, and come up with more of your own.
Let us resolve to study God’s word this year more than ever.  If we do not eat physical food, we die.  The same holds true for our spiritual bodies.  If we do not feed our souls, we will die (Mt.5:6).  Ignorance of God’s word has been the downfall of God’s people throughout history (Hos.4:6).  Let us resolve that we will not contribute to this problem.
Let us resolve to pray to God more this year than ever before.  God desires to help His children, but too many times we fail to ask (Jas.4:2).  Constant communication with God will cause us to grow as we have never grown before.  Let us resolve to be ready at all times to pray to God (1 Th.5:17).
Let us resolve to lead others to Christ with more fervent zeal than we ever had in the past.  The harvest is plenteous, but the laborers are few (Mt.9:37).  If the church is going to grow it is up to us to seek out the lost and teach them about the Lord and his church.
