Can I know that I am saved?

It is hard to believe, but there are some people who believe that you cannot truly know anything.  This idea has even permeated religious thought in our day.  It is not uncommon to hear someone even say, “I don’t know for sure if I am saved.”  The Bible teaches that if you obey God then you can know you are saved! “These things have I written unto you that believe (According to Strong’s Dictionary  this belief is derived from a root that means to obey) on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”  How can anyone who has seen this verse have any question about whether or not he can know that he is saved?
We can know that we are saved!  That knowledge is not subjective though.  It is not a feeling or any such thing, rather is a knowledge that is based upon an understanding that we have done what God has demanded of any who would have eternal life.  In other words one may say that he knows that he is saved and yet be lost because he has not followed God’s commands.
How can we know that we are saved?  By hearing and believing God’s Word (Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:1,6) as He has commanded.  By repenting of our sins (Luke 13:3,5; II Peter 3:9), that is turning our lives around so that they are in harmony with His will, as He has commanded.  By confessing, or proclaiming, Christ before men (Matthew 10:32,33) as He has commanded.  By being immersed, baptized, in water to have our sins washed away (Acts 2:38; Romans 6) as He has commanded.  And by faithfully living and serving God all of the days of our lives (Matthew 24:45,46; Revelation 2:10) as He has commanded.
How great it is for one to be able to say that his life is truly in harmony with God’s Word for it is that one who knows that he has eternal life.  You can have that knowledge as well if you will yield your life to Him.
