Mabelvale Hispanic Mission Report

July 2003

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).
“Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura” (Marcos 16:15).

What’s Happening?
(¿Qué Pasa?)

Classes at Mabelvale continue on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. until about 5:30 p.m., and on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

A new area of outreach at Mabelvale was with our May Gospel Meeting. Spanish speaking brethren and non-members were invited on Friday evening, as prayers were translated, songs were coordinated in both languages, and sermon outlines were distributed in Spanish. There was ten Spanish speaking people present.

A new opportunity for Mabelvale members that may lead to their future involvement in the Hispanic work is a class to learn Spanish, on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Ryan Almquist, from the Northwest congregation in Lincoln, Nebraska, has been working with the Mabelvale congregation this summer, and has been especially helpful in the Hispanic work.

Mabelvale’s VBS reached out to Hispanic children this year. Five Hispanic children attended.

Mabelvale’s Hispanic work will reach into Tilaran, Costa Rica, Central America, as Wayne Brewer will be traveling there to preach in late July and early August. Those on the trip will be Jim & Judy O’Connor and Jana Bentley (Oak Grove, Missouri), Jessica Richardson (Mt Ayr, Iowa), Ashley & Brian Brewer (Mabelvale, Arkansas), and Wayne Brewer.

On July 12, in preparation for our Vacation Bible School, some Hispanic members of the church from Hot Springs and Hope came to help in a door knocking effort. Later in the afternoon a worship service in Spanish was held. Bruno Zapata preached on the topic, “Jesus, Our Best Friend.”

Translation Work
(Trabajo de Traducción)

The fall issue of The Gospel Gleaner has been translated into Spanish and will correspond to the English issue. The Gospel Gleaner is a free quarterly publication of the Mabelvale church of Christ. To receive the English publication, or if you would like the upcoming Spanish version for Hispanic outreach in your area, contact us at Mabelvale.
People in the News
(Noticias de la Gente)

Genaro Pincheira finally returned to the United States, from his home country of Chile where he went to renew his Visa.

Antonia Guerra had a safe trip to Guatemala and back, also to renew her Visa. She had just arrived back in the United States when she received a call that her brother had died of a heart attack.

Sergio Gonzalez’ family, his wife, Adriana, and two daughters, Karen and Melissa, moved to Little Rock recently (July 19), from Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico. We helped Sergio locate an apartment for his family.

Hispanic Gospel Meetings
(Reuniones Hispanas)

Several Hispanics and English speaking members at Mabelvale attended a Gospel Meeting in Batesville, Arkansas, in late May, and also at Getwell in Memphis, Tennessee in early June. Those who went heard excellent Bible lessons and were an encouragement to the brethren in these two congregations.

Looking Ahead
(Más Adelante)

Beginning August 17, we will begin having Sunday morning worship in Spanish at the same time as the English service. We are optimistic that this will benefit the Hispanic work of reaching the lost for Christ.

The Hispanics are still in a very mobile stage, so they often move from place to place, seeking jobs. We can expect that some will be with us for a while and then move on. We will make every effort to put them in contact with faithful Hispanic brethren in their new location.

The Importance of Your Support
(La Importancia de Su Soporte)

The Hispanic work at Mabelvale is still in the beginning stage so your continued support is vital. Thanks to each one of you for your support and interest in this evangelistic mission work. If we can be of assistance to you with Hispanic outreach in your area, contact the Mabelvale elders or me.
